Edward Glulledge, who died abt 1733 In Surry Co., VA, was married to Ann
(?Beach?). Edward was probably the son of John Gulledge and Lucy
Killingsworth; Ann was probably the daughter of William Beach.

Edward and Ann had three children, viz: Lucy, Edward, and William.
Subsequent to their father's death, the two sons (Edward and William) moved
to Halifax Co., NC. Records of several Halifax/Edgecombe Co. deed
transactions exist for both men.

Edward seems to have sold all of his land in the Halifax/Edgecombe area by
1746. He and his sons disappear from records that I've been able to research
untl the 1770's. His sons then appear in Anson Co., NC. A great deal of
info is available on the Anson County Gulledges; most notable is the
microfilmed research of Marie Gulledge Wiggins. Unfortunately, Edward is not
my ancestor; rather it is his brother, William Gulledge.

William Gulledge reportedly had a son also named William who remained in
Halifax Co. In a will dated 31 Oct 1778 this second William mentioned only
one offspring - a son Brittain (Briton) Gulledge. However, several
researchers SPECULATE (and I stress speculate) for reasons I won't discuss
here that Brittain had four brothers, viz: William, Thomas, Frederick (who
married a Mary "Polly" Fuqua and left many descendants in IL), and John.

It is this last William Gulledge whom I surmise is my ancestor. He migrated
to Tennessee with three daughters, Nancy (who never married, but left a will
naming her two sisters), Tabitha who married a Dar, and Rebecca who married
my g-g-g-grandfather, William Carney.

The link between these last four Gulledge men with Brittain and his father is
tenuous at best.

I am most interested in communicating with anyone possessing Gulledge
information, particularly that of the "Tennessee Gulledges."
