General:
The Buncombe County Census of 1850 was enumerated 24 July 1850, and listed George W. Rhodes (34) as head of household with wife Jane (39), Mary Elizabeth (11), John H. (9), Patience (7), William J. L. (4) and Margaret M. (2) in residence.

The 1860 Buncombe County Census shows two additional children, both boys, Washington (9) and L. P. (7).

The family did not appear on the 1870 North Carolina census

General:
The 1820 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina lists Jacob Rhodes as head of a household consisting of 2 males (0-10), l male (26-45), 3 females (0-10), and 1 female (26-45). George W. Rhodes was found on the 1850 Census at age 34, a farmer owning $200.00 in real estate. This would have his birth date around 1816 and more than likely one of the male children at age 4. The male between 26 and 45 would have been Jacob, and the female in this bracket would have been his wife. The names of the female children have been difficult to determine as this is going to entail locating and identifying them through marriage records and some guesswork will necessarily be involved.

The 1830 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina lists Jacob Rhodes as head of a household consisting of 1 male (1-10), which would have been our great grandfather, William, as he was born 5 February 1822, and would have been 8 years of age at this time, 2 males (10-15), one of which would have been George W. at age 14, 1 male (40-50), Jacob, 1 female (5-10), l female (15-20) and 1 female (40-50), Mrs. Jacob Rhodes.

The 1840 Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina list Jacob Rhodes as head of a household consisting of 1 male (0-5), 1 male (10-15), 1 male (15-20) who would have been William, 1 male (40-50), Jacob, 1 female (5-10), 1 female (15-20) and 1 female (40-50) Mrs. Jacob Rhodes.

We have been unable to determine the whereabouts of the family after the 1840 Census, although George W. Rhodes and his family are in Buncombe County in 1850 and 1860.
